As you will know from my post earlier in the week the Billy Branston bus has been on site! Children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about how potatoes are harvested, sorted and how they make part of a healthy balanced diet. They have been hands on in the preparation and cooking of potatoes, which have been enjoyed by children and staff!!
It’s hard to believe but we are at the halfway point in our school year! With the gales blowing outside and the rain lashing down it is hard to imagine that the summer, therefore, is just around the corner!
Visit from Billy Branston
To round off the Billy Branston visit I wanted to let you know that the whole event was very successful with positive feedback from the vast majority of the children. The staff from the company were very impressed with our children – it’s always such a delight to take them to events as we get such positive feedback! Hopefully we also all know a lot more than we did about potatoes!!
Last week we held a staff meeting in the ICT suite and class teachers were given an opportunity and training on updating their class pages and their “Kids Zone”. My intention is for one staff meeting a half term to be allocated to the website so that staff can keep it up to date.
There are a lot of great links to resources and other web sites that will provide fun and helpful links to the curriculum and to the topics being covered.
Parents evenings and Book Fair
As I write this on Monday evening it is too late to book for Tuesday BUT you can still book for Wednesday (and Thursday to see Miss Walker). The book Fair is also here during the week and is based in the hall. What a fantastic treat a book is, for your child, following a successful meeting with their teacher!!
Next week is half term week!
Friday 12th February is the last day of this half term and we re-open on Monday 22nd February. Have a great week – but don’t forget, children, to read at least 3 times during the holiday!!!
I hope that you continue to enjoy our website!

Thank you to those that joined us last night for the E-Safety session! I hope you all found it as useful as we did. We have listed below some of the useful links that we were told about:

Common sense media – this is a website (looking at ratings, why is it an 18?)
Internetmatters.org – useful website (general E-Safety)
Safer Internet Centre – (looks at parental controls for your wifi, mobile device)

Year 5 have the fantastic opportunity to work with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and in particular composer Paul Patterson and conductor Charles Hazelwood. The project is called ‘Strike a Chord’ and begins with some workshops and will conclude later in the year with a concert at the Octagon. We are one of only a handful of local schools selected to take part so this really is a unique opportunity for our children.
Our next E-Safety event is on Monday 11 January. During the afternoon KS2 children will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge on how to stay safe online. Immediately after school there is a Staff session. At 6.30pm from approximately one hour there is a ‘Parents Workshop’. Details have been sent out already and I hope you are able to attend. We are able to offer a crèche, however please contact the school office to book a space.
