Welcome back for the start of a new school year, we hope you had a lovely summer break!
The children have settled into life in Key Stage 2, and are beginning get into the swing of things as there are many changes to get used to.
Our topic for the Autumn Term is ‘The Romans’. During this topic, we will be covering a great deal of history and geography skills alongside Art, D&T and ICT. We will also link our topic work to English, developing the skills of reading and writing in a fun and exciting way.
The children are already showing lots of enthusiasm for this topic, and are excited to discover everything there is to know! If anyone has any Roman artefacts at home or if the children would like to bring in any books or models that they make, it would be lovely to share information and resources with the class. We are hoping to organise a Roman themed trip in order to support our teaching and learning.
Spellings are set once a week, with children receiving a look, cover, write, check sheet to complete at home to support them in learning. This sheet will be handed out on a Friday for a test on the following Friday. If you would like any further support in helping your child to learn their spellings, do come in and ask!
We expect children to continue following the school reading policy of reading at home three-times a week to an adult. The new reading diaries have a clear layout for each week to help facilitate this activity. Regular reading will also help your child move through our ‘Read Around Europe’ incentive.
Please continue to practise times-tables for the weekly test, which will also be on Fridays. Your child will bring home information telling you which times-tables they need to practise for their test, but regular practise of all tables learnt so far is encouraged.
Our PE day is Tuesday. Please ensure your child has a full PE Kit in school so they can take part in their PE lesson, which is a compulsory lesson. Children can only be excused from PE if they have a signed note from a parent explaining why. During the winter months they need warm jumpers and joggers or a warm tracksuit, as some lessons will be taught outside. Please could all PE Kit be clearly named, as it enables us to return lost kit to the rightful owner!
