Welcome back and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We hope all of you had a fabulous Christmas and are ready for a short and busy term ahead.
Our topic for the Spring Term is ‘India’. During this topic, we will be covering a great deal of RE and geography skills alongside Art, D&T and ICT. We will also be focusing on light in our Science lessons, making links to the Festival of Light.
We will also link our topic work to English, developing the skills of reading and writing in a fun and exciting way.
The children are already showing lots of enthusiasm for this topic, and are excited to discover everything there is to know! If anyone has been to India and has any photographs or memories the children can share with the class, it would lovely and greatly appreciated to see them! We are hoping to organise an India day in order to support our teaching and learning which will involve parents. Further news about this will be available shortly!
Spellings are set once a week, with children receiving a look, cover, write, check sheet to complete at home to support them in learning. This sheet will be handed out on a Friday for a test on the following Friday. If you would like any further support in helping your child to learn their spellings, do come in and ask!
We expect children to continue following the school reading policy of reading at home three-times a week to an adult. The new reading diaries have a clear layout for each week to help facilitate this activity. Regular reading will also help your child move through our ‘Read Around Europe’ incentive.
Please continue to practise times-tables for the weekly test, which will also be on Fridays. Your child will bring home information telling you which times-tables they need to practise for their test, but regular practise of all tables learnt so far is encouraged.
Our PE day is Tuesday. Please ensure your child has a full PE Kit in school so they can take part in their PE lesson, which is a compulsory lesson. Children can only be excused from PE if they have a signed note from a parent explaining why. During the winter months they need warm jumpers and joggers or a warm tracksuit, as some lessons will be taught outside. Please could all PE Kit be clearly named, as it enables us to return lost kit to the rightful owner!
Questions and Queries
If you have any concerns, questions or queries you would like to discuss with the year 3 team please feel free to pop in anytime or phone the office to arrange an appointment. After school is generally better because we have more time to spend with you!
We are really looking forward to a spectacular Spring Term and thank-you for your continuing support.
