Welcome back and we hope you enjoyed the Easter break!
We hope that everyone enjoyed the busy first few weeks of the summer term! Our residential week went fantastically and the children seemed to enjoy the different activities on offer both in Cornwall and at school.
Our topic for the first half of the Summer Term is ‘Healthy Me’. During this topic, we will be covering a great deal of skills from the Science, SMSC Art and D&T curriculum. We will also be focusing on coding and E-safety during our ICT lessons.
Alongside all of which the children will be using a new music scheme called Charanga to learn to appraise and sing well known songs.
The children have already looked at healthy foods and designed a healthy lunchbox and a healthy dessert for school dinners. Ask them what they would like for their lunchbox, can they remember how many treats the food pyramid suggests?
Coming up this term we have a visit to Gore Farm, more details to follow!
Spellings are set once a week, with children receiving a look, cover, write, check sheet to complete at home to support them in learning. This sheet will be handed out on a Friday for a test on the following Friday. If you would like any further support in helping your child to learn their spellings, do come in and ask!
We expect children to continue following the school reading policy of reading at home three-times a week to an adult. The new reading diaries have a clear layout for each week to help facilitate this activity. Regular reading will also help your child move through our ‘Read Around Europe’ incentive.
Please continue to practise times-tables for the weekly test, which will also be on Fridays. Your child will bring home information telling you which times-tables they need to practise for their test, but regular practise of all tables learnt so far is encouraged.
Our PE day is Tuesday. Please ensure your child has a full PE Kit in school so they can take part in their PE lesson, which is a compulsory lesson. Children can only be excused from PE if they have a signed note from a parent explaining why. Please could all PE Kit be clearly named, as it enables us to return lost kit to the rightful owner!
It’s a good idea this term to have a hat on stand-by for hot, sunny days.
Questions and Queries
If you have any concerns, questions or queries you would like to discuss with the year 3 team please feel free to pop in anytime or phone the office to arrange an appointment. After school is generally better because we have more time to spend with you!
We are really looking forward to a spectacular Summer Term and thank-you for your continuing support.
