Teacher: Ms Babiy and Miss Mathieson
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Guppy (maternity leave) and Mrs McNally
Hello from the Year 6 team!
We hope this term finds you well.
This is a really busy time of year for us. We are sure the children will have spoken to you about how hard they are working and how successful they are being. Obviously our big focus is on English and maths as we are trying to get the children as ready as possible for their exams – and for their secondary school curriculums.
We would also like to take this moment to say how impressed we have been with the amount of reading happening across Year 6. It’s every teacher’s dream to walk into a room and hear children recommending books to one another and talking avidly about their current book!
Monday – Reading records checked
Wednesday – Miss Mathieson’s grammar homework in
Thursday – PE
Friday – Ms Babiy’s grammar homework in
Please be aware that these dates are set by the Government and that we cannot move them. It is vital that children are present for every exam as they will not be allowed to take them at any other point.
Mon 14th May 2018: English – Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling Test (45 mins + 15 mins)
Tues 15th May 2018: English – Reading Test (60 mins)
Wed 16th May 2018: Maths – Mental Arithmetic Test (30 mins) Maths – reasoning paper 1 (40 mins)
Thurs 17th 2018: Maths – reasoning paper 2 (40 mins)
Clearly there is a huge amount to cover in preparation for these tests. The pace of teaching and learning is going to be very high. It is, therefore, extremely important that children maintain the highest attendance possible to maximise their learning opportunities and progression. Competition is also fierce for the attendance award – 6BM have won twice whereas 6LB have only won once!
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact any member of the Year 6 team.
