Hello from Team Year 6!
We cannot believe it is Summer Term already – the year seems to be flying by!
As you are no doubt aware, this term is going to be very busy for Year 6. With SATs taking place on the week beginning May 14th, we are heavily focused on reading, grammar and maths. The exams form a really important part of the children’s on-going assessment and provide secondary schools with essential information about their capabilities. The tests have to be sat at specific times on specific days, and under very controlled conditions. Therefore, it is essential that children are in school, and on time in order to sit their papers. If children are not feeling well then they can, by all means, return home after taking their papers. Please contact the school if you have any concerns about attendance over this week.
Here is the SATs timetable for the week beginning 14th May:
Monday 14th: Spelling and Grammar paper (45 minutes + 15 minutes)
Tuesday 15th: Reading (60 minutes)
Wednesday 16th: Maths paper 1 – Arithmetic (30 minutes) and Maths paper 2 – Reasoning (40 minutes)
Thursday 17th: Maths paper 3 – Reasoning (40 minutes)
As always, the standards and expectations will not drop after SATS week; we are planning a wide array of topics and activities to make the children’s final term at Birchfield a memorable one. These include taking part in the school play and starting our Young Enterprise project along with many other exciting activities – more information will be sent out nearer to the time!
In addition to this, our teaching and assessment of writing is still ongoing, so there will still be plenty of learning to keep us busy!
We would also like to take this time to wish all of the children the very best in their SATs, we could not be more proud of them and know that each and every one will try their very best on the day.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to pop in and see either of us,
Ms Babiy and Mrs Macleod (formerly Miss Mathieson)
