What are we learning

Welcome to Year 1.

Our topic this term  –

  • What’s in the Woods?

This half term our English focus is based on the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and we will be creating warning posters  informing the school that the wolf has escaped as well as creating our own version of the story. We will also be going on a walk around the local area looking for clues as to the wolfs whereabouts to inform Little Red Riding Hood. This will be linked to geography as we follow a map.

Next half term our English focus is based on the story ‘The Gruffalo’ and we will be creating our own version of this using our Talk 4 Writing story map.

We are continuing with our rainbow reader awards, each day that your child reads at home this will be counted towards their rainbow reading. After 10 reads they move onto the first section of the rainbow and move along until they reach the star at the top. Then they move back down the rainbow towards the pot of gold –  remember that when you go down the rainbow you need to have read 20 times for each colour.

The children will continue to bring home spellings from their Read, Write, Inc. group to learn every Monday ready for a test the following Monday.

The Lending Library will continue when the books arrive from Resources for Learning. The children can borrow a picture story book to share at home with you. They will be able to choose a new book on Fridays, so please make sure they have their borrowed book with them each Friday.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to come and see us in class.
