HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome back for the start of a new year, we hope you had a lovely Christmas break!
Our last term was hugely successful. The children settled into life in Key Stage 2, produced some great work and made good progress. We hope to build on this great success this term.
Our topic for the Spring Term is ‘Native Americans’. During this topic, we will be covering a great deal of geography skills alongside Art, D&T and music. We will also link our topic work to English, developing the skills of reading and writing in a fun and exciting way.
The children are already showing lots of enthusiasm for this topic, finding facts in books, making headdresses and going star-gazing in our very own StarLab! If anyone would like to bring in any books or models that they make, it would be lovely to share information and resources with the class.
In the second half of the term, we hope to create our own totem poles, so please start saving any suitable junk modelling materials now. Who will build the tallest totem pole?
Spellings are set once a week, with children given a look, cover, write, check sheet to complete at home to support them in learning their spellings. This will be handed out on a Monday for a test on the following Monday. If you would like any further support in helping your child to learn their spellings, do come in and ask!
We expect children to continue following the school reading policy of reading at home three-times a week to an adult. This must be recorded in their reading diaries and signed by an adult. The reading diaries have a clear layout for each week to help facilitate this activity.
Please continue to practise times-tables for the weekly fluency test. Your child has a username and password for Times Tables Rock Stars to help encourage them to learn. Why not see who is the quickest and make it into a family competition?
Our PE day continues to be on a Monday. Please ensure your child has a full PE Kit in school so they can take part in their PE lesson, which is a compulsory lesson. Children can only be excused from PE if they have a signed note from a parent explaining why. During the winter months they need warm jumpers and joggers or a warm tracksuit, as some lessons will be taught outside. Please could all PE Kit be clearly named, as it enables us to return lost kit to the rightful owner!
Questions and Queries
If you have any concerns, questions or queries you would like to discuss with the year 3 team please feel free to pop in anytime or phone the office to arrange an appointment. After school is generally better because we have more time to spend with you.
We are really looking forward to a fantastic term and thank-you for your continuing support.
